Ceramic semiconductor Materials In ceramics, semiconductors are many. The temperature - dependent property of resistance can be used for nonlinear resistance. The negative temperature coefficient nonlinear resistance (NTC nonlinear resistance) decreases with the increase of temperature and has general semiconductor characteristics. Oxide ceramics of ferrous metals, because of their chemical and thermal stability, can be used in nonlinear resistors to control temperatures over a wide range. In contrast, components called positive temperature coefficient thermistors (PTC thermistors) are made of semiconducting BaTiO3 ceramics. Since the resistance of such ceramics increases sharply at the phase transition temperature, it is convenient for them to automatically control the temperature near the phase transition temperature if they are used as resistance heating elements.
